However, his levels were far beyond the normal range. Interestingly, in Shar-Pei dogs, this substance decreases as they grow, causing their skin to tighten. Doctors hoped the same would happen for Tom.
Dr. Andrew Ramsden predicted Tom's condition would improve with age – and he was right.
Gradually, Tom's skin began to adapt, just as the doctors had hoped.But the journey wasn't over yet.
